Memorial Day events across the Wiregrass

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - A handful of Memorial Day observances are scheduled for the Wiregrass. Some events will take place on Memorial Day, while Fort Rucker will host a Memorial Day ceremony on Friday.

Memorial Day Ceremony

The United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence and Fort Rucker conducts a Memorial Day Ceremony on May 28 at 8:30 a.m. at Fort Rucker to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation.

Wiregrass Memorial Day Ceremony

Sunset Memorial Park is thrilled to once again host the Wiregrass Memorial Day Ceremony. This is Sunset’s 15th year to host the ceremony, set for Monday, May 31, at Sunset Memorial Park, 1700 Barrington Road. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. and features guest speaker, suicide bombing survivor, Brian Fleming. Mayor Mark Saliba will serve as the master of ceremonies. This free family event features a flower laying ceremony, patriotic and bluegrass music by Longleaf Drive Band, a 21-gun salute, and a picnic lunch.

Memorial Day Ceremony honoring Joshua Watson

The name of a young Navy ensign killed by a domestic terrorist Dec. 6, 2019 in Pensacola, Fla., has been added to the Wall of Freedom at the Enterprise Recreational Park. The addition of the name will be commemorated in a ceremony hosted by local veterans organizations at 10 a.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31. Everyone is invited to attend as the life of the 23-year-old local hero is celebrated.

Veteran Graves Flag Placement

Friday, May 28 the Ft. Rucker Above The Best Silver Chapter of the US Army Warrant Officers Association will be placing American flags on all veterans graves at Meadowlawn Cemetery in Enterprise.
