ELBA, Ala. (WTVY) --

Elba City Schools has announced their plans going forward with events for the remainder of the school year.

“Our graduation will be a normal graduation in the stadium,” said Chris Moseley, Superintendent, Elba City Schools. “That is where Elba graduates.”

Moseley challenged his administrators to consider having the rest of the school years events.

“It does not matter what decision is made, it affects a child and that is what we are here for,” Moseley continued. “We are here for the children we are not here for us we are not here for the parents or anybody else it is all about the child.”

Even if it means reworking the schedule.

“We have moved our prom date,” Moseley said. “Our prom date will be in May and it has been moved back about a month and a half where it was originally was scheduled. We felt like moving it back would kind of get us out of this pandemic situation.”

Without local support from the city, it might not have happened. Luckily with help from Pope Tents and Events, the schools can host several socially distanced events like prom outdoors.

“We went ahead and made the decision to move our prom off campus for the first time since I have been here, and we are going to take it to historical Downtown Elba,” Moseley finished.

The school system also plans to have other events like award days and field days for the elementary and high school.

The school system is set to have prom on May 1st and graduation on May 25th.
