Annual Jim Stanley Memorial Chili Cook-off set for Sunday
DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - If you’re a chili lover, the Dothan Elks Lodge will be the place to be this weekend.
The lodge is holding its’ annual Jim Stanley Memorial Chili Cookoff Sunday afternoon. The cook-off was named after Stanley, a former police officer and Elk member, who passed away last year.
Exalted Ruler Thomas Strickland says about ten teams will compete for a first-place trophy, People’s Choice award, and other prizes.
The event begins at noon, with judging set to begin at 5 p.m. The event is a fundraiser and a way to attract more members to the Lodge.
“The chili cookoff is always a big hit. People will decorate their work stations, we’ll have music. It’s just a family event, it’s reminiscent of the old days where people came together in their community and enjoyed their fellowship. You put down those old cell phones and actually talk to one another,” Strickland said.
The lodge will also be showing the Super Bowl for those in attendance.
