DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - The couple believes they were in the right place at the right time with the right people.

For Douglas and Sheila Deloy, a trip to pick up an RV unexpectedly turned into a trip to the ER.

“During the process of doing a walk thru, all heck broke loose for me,” says Douglas.

In the middle of their visit to Bama RV in Dothan, Douglas started to experience chest pains and staff noticed.

They grabbed the attention of parts manager C.J. Johnson, who doubles as a paramedic.

After seeing the signs and symptoms he’s seen too many times, emergency responders were contacted.

“They came around here and hooked him up the monitor and they were able to find that he had a heart attack going on,” says Johnson.

Douglas was rushed to Flowers Hospital where they found a 90% blockage in one vessel in his heart.

He received two stents but walked away with no severe heart damage.

While he was being cared for by doctors and nurses, the Bama RV teamed cared for Sheila.

“Travis you know he made sure I was taken care of he stayed with me up there at the hospital until everything was good,” says Shelia.

Bama RV supplied Sheila with everything from a hairbrush to a hotel room, but the couple is most gracious for the team’s quick response.

“Told by my doctors, that if everybody at Bama RV if they didn’t act as quick as they and did everything they that they did I may not have been to be telling my story,” says Douglas.

“If it weren’t for these guys, I would have lost him,” says Sheila.

“They are going to be able to enjoy many camping trips and hopefully a long future that way they can actually enjoy the golden years as they always say,” says Douglas.

After Douglas was released from the hospital, they returned to Bama RV and purchased an RV larger than the one they first picked.

After being cleared by doctors to travel, happy campers Douglas and Sheila will make their first trip in their new RV to Texas.

One of the Flowers Hospital team members that cared for Douglas was CJ’s wife.
