Even with a winner in the power ball jackpot on Wednesday, it still leaves the Mega Millions jackpot with nearly a billion dollars up for grabs.

For just the second time ever, the Mega Million has hit a billion dollars making it the third largest jackpot in U.S. history.

That has caught the eye of many across the country including those over the state line in Florida.

“It’s a very steady flow and sometimes it gets a little congested,” said store manager of Lotto Discount Liquor Margaret Marshall. “It’s been pretty rough in here but hey it is what it is somebody just needs to win.”

Plenty of people coming have been coming in to buy tickets, trying their luck at hitting the jackpot.

“I’ve had some of them come in here and spend about $500 just on mega million alone which will be 250 quick picks but 250 chances to win,” Margaret added. “Hey, if you’ve got the money, go for it but it only takes that one ticket to win.”

Although nobody has won the Mega Millions jackpot since September of 2020, Margaret has sold some winning tickets since then.

“Someone won here,” she said. “They got four numbers on the sequence and then they got the mega ball, and they were one number away from winning the whole jackpot and got 10,000 and it was sold at this store.”

Whether you are a first timer or weekly player, just about everyone has an idea what they will be doing if they hit those 6 lucky numbers.

“My family wouldn’t want for nothing,” said Lottery player James Granger. “I’ve got great grandkids and they wouldn’t want for nothing. My next generation would not want for nothing. Buy the biggest house there is, it wouldn’t be nothing.”

James plays the lottery weekly.

“I won a hundred dollars one time but it’s just the fact that you might win so you keep coming,” James added. “You never can tell when the day might be your day.”

With so many numbers and combinations, you will need a little luck.

“I write my numbers in,” James explained and added some of his lucky numbers “13, 8, my birthday, my kid’s birthday, just some of those.”

Even if there is a winner tonight, there will still be plenty hoping for the next jackpot.

“It still will stay busy with our regulars and then they’ll still be people that you know want to come back and check to see and they still give it a shot,” Margaret finished.

The next drawing will be Friday at 10 p.m. central time.
