DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - The Wiregrass Area Food Bank is in severe need of canned goods to distribute to its 150 nonprofits and churches that operate food programs.

There has been a shortage of food available to the food bank through the Feeding America national food bank network.

Another problem, more people are eating at home and buying more groceries, which means stores have less food left to donate.

The food bank is reaching out to the community for help to make sure there is food in stock for those who need it most.

“We want to provide for that basic need which is always food. What we’re asking everybody to do is go through your pantry, if you stockpiled some canned goods and you don’t think that you need all of those please consider dropping those in a food drive that’s going on near you or just dropping them off at the food bank,” says Wiregrass Area Food Bank assistant director Julie Gonzalez.

If you want to drop off donations at the food bank, it is located at 382 Twitchell Road in Dothan.
