Dr. Jerry Dooling, who pastored First Methodist of Dothan, has died

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -Dr. Jerry Dooling, Sr., former senior pastor of Dothan’s First Methodist Church, died Friday, January 1, following a battle with Parkinson’s Disease, per a Sunset Funeral Home obituary. He was 85.

After serving First Methodist for 11 years, Dr. Dooling was named District Superintendent of the Church in 1997. In all, he spent 56 years in ministry, counting the 14 years after his retirement in 2003, when he served Sylvan Grove United Methodist Church.

Early in his career, Dr. Dooling pastored Broad Street Methodist Church in Mobile, Pine Forest, Pensacola, Florida; Wetumpka First UMC; Richards Memorial UMC, Pensacola Florida; Trinity UMC, Opelika, Alabama.

A private burial service was held for the immediate family. The Reverend Winston Jay, who has been such a faithful friend during Jerry’s illness, did the committal, the obituary stated.
