PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) -Several months ago Bay county announced it was closing the Waste to Energy incinerator. The process will happen in stages starting January second. At that time commercial trash haulers will be required to dispose of their loads at the Steelfield Landfill. However, locals will be allowed to drop off their private trash at the incinerator site until further notice.

The incinerator will continue to burn trash until the floor is cleared during the second week of January. Once the waste is cleared then work to shut down the facility will go into effect.

The process is expected to be completed in March 2021 with clearance from the Florida Department Of Environmental Protection.
