Fort Rucker Mailroom Clerk awarded Global Connection to Employment Team Member of the Year award
DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - Wanda Tye has been working in the Fort Rucker Mail and Distribution Center for the past ten years. While her daily duties are the same as you and me some things work just a little bit different.
“I was nervous I had never experienced working with so many hearing people,” said Wanda Tye –GCE, DHR Official Mail Distribution Center Mail Clerk on Fort Rucker.
But this will not stop her.
“You know deaf can do anything,” said Tye.
Even with her worries, Wanda’s coworkers do not stop until things get done.
“Everyone who has worked with me is super nice they help me we help each other, and it has just been a wonderful experience,” said Tye.
But what makes her even happier is the community. Getting to interact with them make her job so much better.
“I’ve also moved to a new office and it has been great I am able to work with the customers we go back and forth with a little bit of notes taking and they’ve learned some sign language it’s been really wonderful,” said Tye.
And by never letting her disability discourage and only encourage her, the company Wanda works for—Global Connection to Employment choose her for their team member of the year.
“I was so surprised I never expected it in my life that I would win that it was very hard to believe of course I was excited about it also,” said Tye.
And her celebration wasn’t done alone. Wanda’s boss made sure her daughter was there virtually for this big day.
Wanda was in a pool of over 14 employees in the company to be chosen for this award.
