New Brockton woman celebrates 108th birthday
DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - A New Brockton woman reached a major milestone Saturday as she celebrated her 108th birthday.
Miss Carrie Reynolds is a descendant of the first black family to live in New Brockton, according to her family.
Her family helped organize a drive-through birthday parade to mark the special occasion.
City leaders, the New Brockton and Enterprise fire departments, and members of her church all came out to participate, waving and beeping their horns and sirens.
One special gift Reynolds received was a key to the City of New Brockton from the mayor.
We spoke to Reynolds’ family about what she means to the family.
”It’s a blessing for someone to live that long in our family, and the things she has endured throughout her life. ” said Priscilla Senior, Reynolds’ niece. “She’s always been the heart of our family. She used to cook cakes, everything for us. And as far as her house, it is always a home to everybody.”
Reynolds has four children and eight grand children.
