DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - The Boys and Girls Club Wiregrass is honoring a long-time club member that passed away.

“We just miss her so much. I miss her walking through that door and giving me that beautiful smile,” says BGC Wiregrass executive director Phillip Gilley.

Treazure Powell attended the club for ten years. She joined when she was in kindergarten.

Treazure loved to sing dance and play softball.

Her family, friends, and the boys and girl club community remember her as a sweet, quiet girl with a contagious smile who didn’t say much but was always there to listen and offer great advice.

She passed away in April 2019 due to an illness at the age of 14.

For her sixteenth birthday in November, the club added something to the facility to remember her legacy.

“There are just some of those, those members that are just a little extra special. She was. She was a junior staff. She always helped out anything you asked her to do. We thought it was fitting to with her being so kind to everyone and everybody liked her, and she liked everybody that we came up with the idea of doing a buddy bench. We thought it would be a nice tribute to her,” says Gilley.

Treazure’s mom says the dedication meant a lot to the family as she always prays that her daughter is remembered.
