Battle for The Belt
Troy takes on South Alabama in Mobile
DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - The Belt is on the line as Troy and South Alabama battle it out Saturday in Hancock Whitney Stadium.
“This is a rivalry game,” Coach Chip Lindsey said. “We understand that. Our players understand that. We’re excited about that. The opportunity obviously to win on the road and play those guys at their place will be a challenge. But you know what better way to try to refocus after a tough weekend than getting ready for a rivalry.”
While it might not be the oldest rivalry, the tradition between the Trojans and Jags runs deep.
The series started in 2012.
Troy leads the series 5-3 and has claimed The Belt the last two years.
Troy Linebacker, Carlton Martial said, “Having that belt, all the history that’s behind this game that’s big. We’re like we have to keep The Belt, but it’s more of you know just getting better as a team and just winning this game.”
This will be a tough one for the Trojans who are going into their second straight road game and have lost their last 3 games.
“No matter what the cost. You know when you back the one animal up into a corner, it does anything to get out of that corner you know. So, we just have to come out fighting and just win” Martial said.
Lindsey adding, “There’s just a lot of opportunity for us to grow these last three games and it starts this week with The Battle of The Belt.”
The Trojans are looking to keep The Belt in Troy for another year.
They’ll face off with the South Alabama Jags Saturday, Dec. 5 at 1 p.m. in Mobile.
