REMINDER: Dothan Warming Station to open Tuesday night, volunteers needed

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - With colder temperatures sweeping across the Wiregrass, the Dothan community is coming together to help the area’s homeless.

First Baptist Church of Dothan is opening up a warming station for those in need of shelter. It will be in the Family Life Center, located directly behind the church at 300 W. Main Street. Sleeping cots, warm food, and snacks will be provided.

“When it’s below 28 degrees, we offer a warming station. We work with the Harbor, Love in Action, the Arc to help man this, to get volunteers,” Bob Gross, Minister of senior adults and missions, said. “Normally, we have about 15-20 people that will come inside the building to get out of the cold.”

Sign in will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, December 1st. Once signed in, if you leave, you cannot be re-admitted.

Hours for the warming station are from 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 1st until 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 2nd.

Volunteers are also needed for two shifts: 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. ; 1 a.m. to 7 a.m.

Volunteers can call the Harbor at 334-790-4031, email, or Harbor Facebook message. Remember, a warming station in Dothan opens when temperatures are 28 degrees or lower.
