Dothan Fire Department raises $3,500 for Children’s of Alabama
By selling t-shirts, the money raised will go toward the Children’s of Alabama Developmental Therapeutic Program.
DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - This year COVID-19 forced the Dothan Fire Department to cancel their annual family fun day and 5k event benefitting childhood cancer, which usually raises $10,000 or more. However, cancelling the event did not stop them from still raising over $3,000 for Children’s of Alabama.
By selling t-shirts the fire department raised $3,500 for the Children’s of Alabama Developmental Therapeutic Program.
Under the circumstances, the fire department said they are proud and thankful for the Wiregrass community coming together and raising the amount they did.
Some t-shirts are still available for $15 that can be purchased at the fire department.
“Anytime that we can raise awareness to childhood cancer and support them with the fund with childhood cancer research, and that’s what we done today,” Battalion Chief David Hasty said.
Planning is already underway for the 2021 fundraiser.
Dothan Fire began the initiative after the department lost young family members to the disease.
