Geneva’s Stop & Shop kicks off Nov. 6

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - Putting locally owned businesses in Geneva on showcase, that is the mission of the third annual Geneva Stop & Shop.

“We just want people to come to Geneva and see what we have to offer," Shelby Danley, cofounder of Geneva Stop & Shop, said. "We have a lot of different business here, a lot of variety here, so it’s just our way to get people here to see what we have to offer.”

Visitors coming from all over lower Alabama, you never know who you might see.

“We’ve had people come that saw a cousin they haven’t seen in a year, so its almost like a family reunion,” Lisa Ward, cofounder of Geneva Stop & Shop, said.

Customers are to go to any of the nine participating stores, get a map and make their rounds to each stop and prove it by getting a stamp. At their last stop they can leave the fully stamped map and be entered into a giveaway that is valued up to $800. No purchase is necessary to get a stamp.

“It’s just a great way to get people out and about and shopping,” Danley said.

COVID-19 took a hard hit on local businesses everywhere, but the morale for shop owners stays high with events like this.

“I think people coming into these local businesses after this year that we’ve had, people are feeling comfort by being with each other," Ward said. "I think that it’s just support, showing that we all stand together and nothing’s going to stop us.”

It will be a two-day event, November 6th and 7th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Each store will offer a variety of deals that you can choose from.

“It can be spread out if anyone is concerned about crowds or anything like that, that’s why we have it between two days and with nine stops you have plenty of time to get to everyone,” Danley said.

Celebrating community over competition.

"Every business does something different and it makes it that much more exciting,” Ward said.
