DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - A Dothan man is trying to bring positivity to the neighborhood he grew up in.

Christopher Russell was sentenced to 99 years in prison.

After serving eight of those years he was released. That’s something he considers a miracle.

With his second chance at freedom, he’s trying to give back to his community.

He and his brother are hosting a God Did This Stop the Violence community day with free food, entertainment, and inflatables for kids at Fairlane Park in Dothan on Sunday.

“It’s been a lot of violence going on a lot of activity and everybody is a victim of violence ain’t no one person even the person that’s committing the violence is a victim of violence. So, at the end of the day, we all need to get involved. It’s time for us to do something about it at least something positive,” says Russel.

The event will start at noon and end at 6 p.m.
