Tigers and Yellow Jackets meet in region clash
ABBEVILLE, Ala. (WTVY) - The week’s high school football schedule will look a little different.
Due to the threat of inclement weather, a number of games in our area have been shifted to Thursday including a big Class 2A Region 2 showdown between the Elba Tigers and Abbeville Yellow Jackets.
Elba is fresh off the heels of a huge win over Geneva County to move into a three-way tie for second place in the region. Abbeville has bounced back after its loss to the Bulldogs, winning two straight and positioning its self in that pack of three behind G.W. Long.
Both Elba and Abbeville know the importance of getting this win on Thursday.
“I’m pretty sure all teams want that number two spot and it could possibly lead to a one spot later on,” said Elba head coach Marc Sieving. “It’s definitely an important game and I think our kids understand that. Abbeville’s got a great football team. They’ve got a lot of athletes, probably the most athletic team we’ve played so were going to have our hands full but we feel like we play pretty good football here in Elba also.”
“We just want to focus on this football game cause this is one of the better teams in the state,” said Abbeville head coach LaBrian Stewart. “For us, its kind of like a playoff game because you’ll definitely know where you’re at with the caliber players that they have and like I said it’ll be a good football game.”
Don’t forget with these changes, our Friday Night Football show will now air Thursday. All the highlights just a day earlier.
Tune in to WTVY at 10 p.m. on Thursday for all the action across the Wiregrass.
