Cindy Gary takes Midland City Mayor seat
DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - Midland City elected a new mayor on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Cindy Gary ended the night with 279 votes and her opponent, Joann Bennett Grimsley, with 262 votes.
It was a close race, Gary led with 52 percent of the votes.
Gary said she never thought they could work so hard during campaigning, but they did and it turned in her favor.
Before Gary retired, she worked for the city of Dothan. She said this will be a challenge for her because she has never been in this seat of government before.
As Midland City’s mayor, she strives for the city to work together and wants to motivate residents to get involved and volunteer. Gary said she would like to make the city as good as it can be. She said there are some areas that needs more attention than others, but overall would like to see the community come together.
“A lot of infrastructure, I would like to see maybe improved, and hopefully get some economic development here," Gary said. "Different little shops and maybe a new restaurant here. We don’t know. we just have got to do a lot of investigating and exploring to see exactly what we can get here.”
Gary thanks her supporters for getting her to this position.
She will be sworn into office on Nov. 2, and will officially begin her duties on Nov. 3.
