ABBEVILLE, Ala. (WTVY) - Residents in Abbeville voted in a new mayor Tuesday.

Local business owner Jimmy Money has been elected to the seat. He received 478 votes compared to opponent Greg Grimsley’s 252 votes in the runoff.

Money owns the Jimmy’s Bar-B-Q and Pizza restaurant in downtown. He says he wants to focus on street cleanup and recreation improvements.

He says he’s overwhelmed over the support he’s received from the community and that he’s ready to take on the challenge that lies ahead.

“People that know me will tell you that very seldom am I man without much to say. Tonight is almost one of them. I appreciate the turnout, the people, and good Lord giving me the perseverance to hang in for these last three and a half months. Partys over, time to get to work,” Money said.

Money was surrounded by his family and supporters as the results were posted. He also paid tribute to his wife, who he said supported him on the hard days.

Money will officially take over the reigns on November 2nd, 2020.

Incumbent Billy Helms did not advance past August’s primary.
