Trump tweets support for congressional candidate Barry Moore
With a victory, the Enterprise Republican will replace Representative Martha Roby
DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -President Trump on Wednesday tweeted his support for Alabama Second District congressional candidate Barry Moore after the two men met at the White House.
“An early supporter of our #MAGA agenda, he is Strong on Jobs, Life, the Wall, Law & Order and the Second Amendment,” Trump said of the Republican nominee.
Moore, in a statement, thanked the President for his support. “I’m truly honored to be endorsed for Congress by President Donald J. Trump. I have never regretted being the first elected official in America to endorse him for President in 2015, and I’m looking forward to working with him in the next Congress during his second term,” the Enterprise Republican said.
A former Alabama state representative, Moore narrowly survived the March primary among a field of seven, finishing a single point ahead of the third place candidate.
He first appeared to be a long shot in his runoff bid against Jeff Coleman, a Dothan businessman whom Moore trailed by 16 points in the primary. Moore, though, gained momentum and won in a landslide.
He is opposed Democrat Phyllis Harvey-Hall in the November General Election.
The winner replaces Representative Martha Roby (R-Montgomery) who is retiring from 10 years in Congress.
