MIDLAND CITY, Ala. (WTVY) - A rivalry dating back to 1931 continues this Friday in our Game of the Night. The Headland Rams, under first year head coach Toby Greene, go on the road to face the Dale County Warriors.

Separated by just 11 miles, Dale County and Headland have a storied rivalry.

The two programs met every year from 1947 until 2011. The rivalry was restarted once again in 2014.

Both head coaches know the importance of getting this win.

“Headland and Dale County has always been a rivalry and we just kind of look at it that way,” said Greene. “It’s the next game we are playing and it’s the one we want to win the most. We want to be 1-0 this week.”

“It is a rival game for us and it is for them too,” said Dale County head coach Don Moore. “They’re ready for a win too so I expect their full force. For us, we just love to win a rival game.”

For the Rams, 2020 has been far from a stellar season.

Just 1-4 on the year, but a win over the Warriors could be the jump start this team needs.

“I feel like if we win it will give us a better chance to play harder,” said wide receiver Marquez Reeves. “Even though we’ve been losing, people have been giving up thinking we can’t win but we can.”

“It would give us a lot of momentum to got out there and really get going,” said linebacker Wilson Turner. “We’re 1-4 right now so we’re not doing so hot, but if we beat them, especially with it being a rivalry game, then it will give us the momentum and the oomph to get out there and do what we need to do.”

The Warriors suffered a setback this past Friday against Alabama Christian.

After three straight wins, Dale County fell at home to the Eagles.

Friday is all about fixing mistakes and getting back on track.

“Just have to play as a team,” said wide receiver Jaylon Dozier. “Believe in each other. Go out there and play hard.”

“We just have to come together. We have to play the whole game,” said quarterback Ethan Teal. "We can’t just show up in the 2nd half. We have to go all four quarters. Full effort. Full speed. Just play hard and fast.

Reporter Erin Wilson will be live from Warrior Stadium all afternoon Friday and then will have a full recap of the game on Friday Night Football.
