Christmas sponsors needed for Wiregrass foster kids
DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -
Christmas is still a few months away, but one organization is already working to ensure a special group of children enjoys the holiday, and they need the community’s help.
The Houston County Department of Human Resources is looking for Christmas sponsors for the hundreds of children in foster care and families who receive ongoing service.
Fostering Hope and the Dothan Rotary Club are two groups who have taken the pledge and have done so in previous years, but with more people out of jobs, the demand for sponsors is even greater this year.
Individuals, families, churches, and businesses can sign up to be sponsors for a single child, a group of siblings, or several children.
The children will complete a wish list, including favorite toys, interests, and age to help sponsors come up with gift ideas.
“There’s just a lot of emphasis on family at that time of year so I think it’s really good to know not only our department but the community it was important for somebody to be thinking about those children and somebody to be thinking about our families,” says DHR resource supervisor Anna Nolen.
