Enterprise mayoral candidate requests recount
ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WTVY) --
The Enterprise City Council holding a special called meeting Wednesday night.
This comes after a request from Lister Reeves and council president Perry Vickers for a recount in the mayoral election.
The votes were canvassed at last Tuesday’s city council meeting and the results were approved.
Reeves then requested a recount just before the deadline on Thursday and Vickers followed but not until after he had approved the results at the council meeting.
Vickers has since withdrawn his petition for a recount.
52 votes separate Bill Baker and Lister Reeves.
Both Reeves and Baker commented ahead of Wednesday night’s meeting.
“I had a number of people contact me saying that it’s really close and basically encouraged me to look into what it would take to ask for a recount or petition to recount of the votes because the numbers were so close,” said Lister Reeves.
“We have professionals here and I am confident that when the recount is done that it’s going to come out the same,” said Bill Baker. “There will be no change in the election, and it will just validate the professionals we have working in our polling places in Enterprise.”
The recount will take place on Friday at 10:30 at the Enterprise Rec Center.
