DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - It is out with the old, and in with the new for the Alabama Peanut Producers Association (APPA) - as they unveiled to us their new peanut statue on Wednesday.

The old peanut in front of their office has been there since 2002, and it was not a character. So they have decided it was time for a fresh look.

The company went with replica plastics to create a new design ... and this time, chose a character.

“We’ve created a litte peanut farmer, who is in his overalls, his sweet grown alabama overalls, and holding a vine of peanuts and a jar of peanut butter, and because half of the peanuts we grow around this region go into peanut butter,” said Jacob Davis, who is the Executive Director of the Alabama Peanut Producers Association.

The Alabama Peanut Producers Association is responsible for efforts in research, education, advocacy and promotion of peanuts ... and peanut products on behalf of producers, statewide.
