DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -A day long search ended late Wednesday when Dothan police apprehended a wanted felon with a extensive criminal history.

Officers and a canine captured Courtney Jamal Byrd near the intersection of Honeysuckle Road and Fortner Street about 4:30. Commuters got a good look as Byrd was taken into custody about 100 yards from the busy intersection.

Byrd, 26, had bolted when officers made a traffic stop involving him about 10 o’clock Wednesday morning. Police used tracking dogs and a helicopter in their search for him.

Records show Byrd has prior arrests for robbery, burglary, theft, illegal drugs, and attempting to elude police.

He also had outstanding warrants.
