DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -The city of Ashford has cast their votes for the municipal election and the unofficial results are in. The current Ashford mayor will be in office for the next four years. Mayor Carole Barfield has won re-election against city councilman Gary Gibson.

Barfield discussed how she felt today and what her plans are for her next term in office. She said she was nervous going into the election and that it’s been a long few weeks. But Barfield said she’s happy with the way things turned out. Her goal for her next term in office is to work off the growth she’s had over the past few years.

Some improvements Barfield is looking to make includes, “Some new sidewalks, possibly some paving of some roads, we’ve got a new parking lot, we’ve got a lot downtown, and we’re hoping to locate some more businesses here so we’ve got a lot of plans a lot of big plans and we just want everyone to work together to make those plans come true for the next four years,” she said.

Some of the things they've accomplished over the past few years has been bringing O'Rileys, Bean Press and True Value to town.

Barfield wasn’t the only winner in Ashford. The City Council spots went to Ronnie Whitehead in Place 2, Alan Anderson in Place 3, Blake Rosenkoetter in Place 4, and James Smith in Place 5.
