Game of the Night Preview: Providence vs Rehobeth
REHOBETH, Ala. (WTVY) - The high school football season kicks off Thursday in the state of Alabama, but Wiregrass teams have another 24 hours until they kickoff the season on Friday.
We have a good one to start the season on Friday from W.F. Andrews Field as the Rehobeth Rebels play host to the Providence Christian Eagles in our Game of the Night.
The Class 3A, sixth ranked eagles come to Rehobeth hoping to start the season with a big win over the Class 5A Rebels.
"They'll be a pretty rough team," said Providence running back Gus Goldsborough. "They're good. They're big. They'll have good players. It will be a good challenge for us."
We have prepared," said wide receiver Grant Weatherford. "It's been about six weeks now. We're up at 4:30 a.m. and coming to practice at 5:30 every morning."
The Rebels, under new head coach Pate Harrison, will look to derail the Eagles season from the start.
Everybody has to have that mindset of winning," said Rehobeth running back Brandon Austin. "Everybody has to come hustle and execute."
"Whoever makes the mistakes will lose the game," said Harrison. "Both teams can be good. Both teams will be physical."
While the teams look very different in terms of size.
"Everyone know they have us outnumbered three-to-one," said Weatherford. "They're a 5A school, but we're still going to go at it the best we can."
"We don't play many schools this big," said Goldsborough. "It's going to be fun. We're not even as close as big as them.. It's going to be fun playing someone so big and how the competition will be."
Their style of play is nearly identical, strong running games and smash mouth defenses.
"We're expecting them to come in and play real physical just like we're trying to do," said Harrison. "Basically the match-up is going to be a lot alike."
“It’s going to be head on head. Teams going at it,” said Goldsborough. “No tricks or nothing. Just power and who is going to be the stronger finisher.”
