JACK, Ala. (WTVY) - The high school football season kicks off this Friday, but the Zion Chapel Rebels have an extra week before their first official game.

The Rebels will play Florala in a jamboree this Friday before kickoff the regular season a week later.

2019 was a step in the right direction for Zion Chapel.

With a 6-5 record, it marked the program's first winning season since 2011. The Rebels also punched their ticket to the playoffs for the first time since that same year.

Head coach Randy Bryant is wanting his team to take that next step this year.

"You're looking to progress every year. That's where we are at," said Bryant. "Talking to our kids about six plus. The standard has got to change every year with what we do. From 2-8 to 5-5 to 6-5 and making the playoffs, we're trying to raise that bar every year."

Due to the new guidelines in place this season, the Rebels will play their 2020 home games at Bates Memorial Stadium in Enterprise. This will allow for more fans to attend games while adhering to social distancing.

Zion Chapel will kick off the season at Bates against Kinston on August 28.
