DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -More than 100 volunteers woke up early Saturday morning to help kickoff the “Love Your Neighborhood” Clean Up project.

The project is designed to help revitalize parts of the city that are facing declining conditions. Baptist Bottom was the first neighborhood chosen for the project.

Volunteers grabbed chainsaws, rakes, and other equipment and got to work clearing debris, downed trees, and helping residents clean up yards.

WTVY spoke with one volunteer who grabbed a ride in a taxi and brought her own yard tools and joined in.

“All this craziness in the world, forget about it. You know, people need to think outside the box. That’s what brings us closer together. I stay on my front porch and try to avoid the germs and stuff. But when it comes to community effort, I get out,” Volunteer Cynthia Plummer said.

City officials are planning to choose more Dothan neighborhoods for improvements, in the coming months...
