SAMSON, Ala. (WTVY) - The Samson Tigers just missed out on the playoffs this past season and that’s left a sour taste in the teams’ mouth since last October.

2020 will be a different year for the Tigers.

After competing in Class 2A every year since 1984, Samson is dropping down this year and will play in Class 1A. Its region consisting of teams such as Brantley, Florala, and Kinston.

Head coach Jason Wambles plans to refocus his team and get them back in the postseason.

"Our goal is to make the playoffs. We want to make sure we are always in the playoffs," said Wambles. "We feel like that's the table we set to be a playoff team. I feel like we have a good chance at that if we stay healthy this year. Anything less than a playoff spot for us is a disappointment. Going into a new region, we have to find out what they got and who is going to be the top team, but our goal is to always be in the playoffs."

Samson opens the season against the Cottonwood Bears.
