WMA hosts House Party for Art
The House Party for Art will replace WMA's yearly event Yard Party for Art
DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - Due to COVID-19, the Wiregrass Museum of Art decided not to host their yearly Yard Party for Art this August. This year WMA presents House Party for Art, a virtual art, music and technology festival.
The museum can reach a larger audience this year since the event is now online in light of COVID-19. Viewers can still experience listening and seeing musicians from around the South East and artists from the comfort of their air conditioned home.
House Party for Art is a free three-day event beginning Thursday, August 13th and lasting until Saturday, August 15th.
Lara Kosolapoff-Wright, WMA communication manager, said a challenge for the museum along with other businesses is figuring out who they are without having some of the events that normally take place.
“We just had to get creative this year and try to figure out a way to still connect our audience, again with these amazing artists and musicians,” Kosolapoff-Wright said. “We didn’t want that, you know the gathering restrictions because of COVID-19, to deter this festival.”
The museum will lose a significant amount of revenue this year with the adjustments to this event. To support WMA viewers can purchase a House Party for Art t-shirt and a hand-screen printed poster. Viewers can also support the museum by becoming a WMA member and simply donating.
“We are so appreciative of the many artists and musicians who have adapted alongside WMA to provide content for House Party for Art. As we continue to experience these unprecedented and uncertain times, our commitment to the arts is only stronger. The arts have the power to transform lives and to provide opportunities to connect with one another,” said Dana-Marie Lemmer, WMA’s executive director and curator.
