Charge: She stole $250,000 from 92-year old man

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -A woman with local and out of state ties has been charged with stealing a quarter of a million dollars from an elderly man.

She is 59-year old Martha Lee Byrd who lists a Portland, Oregon address but has also lived Coffee Springs, Alabama.

Public records reveal Byrd has shared homes in Alabama and Oregon with the victim, who is 92.

“This investigation is ongoing, further details will be released when available,” the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office said in a written release.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Attorneys Office for the Middle District of Alabama, Alabama Securities Commission, and local district attorney's office are sharing the investigation.

Byrd, charged with one count of Financial Exploitation of the Elderly, is held in the Coffee County Jail without bond.

She was arrested Monday.
