ARITON, Ala. (WTVY) - The Ariton Purple Cats season came to an end last year in the 3rd round of the AHSAA playoffs.

After an 0-2 start, the Purple Cats rattled off 10 straight wins in route to a region title.

Steven Kilcrease has completely turned the Ariton program around the last four seasons, winning nine or more games three straight years and punching a ticket to the playoffs every season.

Despite the recent success, Kilcrease wants his team to keep the same underdog attitude.

"Our guys came in last year sort of overlooked," said Kilcrease. "A lot of people around the community didn't think we'd be that good. We started the season 0-2 so things weren't that good, but it was a hungry group and we have a lot of those guys back. I think they still have a sour taste on how things ended last year. We felt like we moved on further. I think that's the big thing. Stay humble but stay hungry. I'm excited about our guys."

Ariton opens the 2020 season against Dale County.
