Enterprise Chamber of Commerce hosts forum for mayoral and district races
ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WTVY) --
With the municipal elections just two weeks away, Enterprise Chamber of Commerce switched up how they host their usual “Peanuts and Politics.”
Virtual, that is how the chamber hosted “Peanuts and Politics” this year.
"Peanuts and Politics has been done at Cutt's restaurant and so we've decided, the legislative committee decided, the best thing to do is do it virtual this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic," said Chairman of the Enterprise Legislative Committee Paul Sherling.
It is all for the safety of those involved.
“We wanted to make sure we had a forum that was safe for the public considering what is going on with the COVID-19 pandemic,” Sherling continued. “We want it safe for the public, say for the candidates, safe for the candidate’s families, but we wanted to provide a forum.”
5 months ago, the idea would seem strange. Now, having the forum virtually is somewhat a given.
"Doing it through Zoom and each candidate is going to be asked they're going to get five minutes to talk and then each candidate is going to have an opportunity to answer two questions that are comprised by the committee," Sherling added.
One pro of having the forum virtually, you don't have to worry if you missed it live.
"There's going to be a link for the chamber to where they can go in and easily access the mayor and council candidates so they can view it at home," Sherling finished.
Municipal elections will be held Tuesday, August 25th.
