DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - With the Ashford area continuing to grow, a priority for leaders is to prepare for crowded polling places this November as COVID-19 cases continue to rise. Houston County Commissioners approved moving voting from the Ashford Depot to the Watermark Church East Gymnasium.

The difference in locations is roughly a 3 minute drive. It will provide extra space for voters to social distance. Houston County Probate Judge, Patrick Davenport said it is something they have considered for several years. He believes this will be a good improvement for Ashford voters. A number of gymnasiums are already used around the county.

"They have turned out to be great voting facilities, particularly in the social distancing age, where it allows us to make sure that the voter can come in, get registered to vote, vote and exit and feel comfortable about that process," Judge Davenport said.

You can register to vote now for the November 3rd election online or by contacting your registrars office. If you are interested in absentee voting you need to contact the circuit clerk’s office.
