GENEVA, Ala. (WTVY) - The Geneva Panthers are moving on up in 2020. The Panthers are stepping up in classification and will play in Class 4A this season.

Les Sanders and company are preparing for some stiff competition at the 4A ranks.

Geneva lost only eight starters from last years team, but will have to replace guys such as Dylan Creech and Kahari McReynolds, two very talented players who are now playing college ball.

The pandemic has changed things for every school in the state and Sanders is rolling with the punches getting his team ready.

“We go to work on defense and offense, we don’t say give me the first group. We cherry pick,” said Sanders. “I got ninth graders mixed with seniors because I told my group that’s what it may look like. This may be our starting 11 on this side of the ball week one or week five. On top of injuries, you have to be worried about the virus and being quarantined. We’re working all kind of kids. That’s been a big part of our last two weeks once we’ve got on the field is trying to develop those guys and explain to them that we want them to pay attention and practice as if you are a starter because you’re one injury or quarantine away from being a third team or starter.”

Geneva will begin the 2020 season against the Opp Bobcats.
