SLOCOMB, Ala. (WTVY) - The Slocomb Red Tops and head coach Richard Tisdale gearing up for the start of the 2020 season.

Coming off a 4-6 season a year ago, Tisdale and his team are hunting a spot in the Class 3A playoffs, a place they haven’t been since 2017.

The Red Tops play in Class 3A Region 2, easily one of the toughest regions in the Wiregrass, but they have one of the top players in the area, running back Jaylen Nobles, leading the charge. And he put in the work during the quarantine adding 25 pounds of muscle heading into his junior year.

He would send me videos, over and over, throughout the time we were quarantined, where he’s out in the yard running sprints, he’s doing push ups, pull ups,” said Tisdale. “He’s got a cousin he would see anyways that’s a part of his family, they would go out there and do cone drills and those types of things. To see him work hard without me standing over him was good. He’s got the mentality for it. He’s got a great mom at home that’s teaching him how to be a great adult. Just seeing him mature as a person and as a football player. It’s been really exciting to see.”

The Red Tops open up the season against the Geneva Panthers.
