DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - A Dothan scout has made it easier to properly dispose of American flags.

According to the United States Flag Code, Title 4, Section 8k, an American flag should be retired when it is in such a condition that is “no longer a fitting emblem for display” and should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning it.

Colton Ash, a scout with Troop 38, built a dropbox so people can properly dispose of retired American flags.

Ash says every few weeks scouts from Troop 38 will collect the flags and then will retire them on a regular basis by burning them.

The box is located at 1203 West Newton Street, Dothan.
