Land purchased for Wiregrass Pet Rescue and Adoption Center
DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - It was a dream that was in the works for years and it has finally come true. Applauds rung out as the land was purchased for the new Wiregass Pet Rescue and Adoption Center.
“Our facility that we currently have is in disrepair it has needed repairs for many many years and it is out in the middle of nowhere,” said Beth Kenward - District 5 Commissioner.
On close to six acres of land, the new facility will be located in a highly traveled area along Hartford Highway. The design is setup to be welcoming for the animals and the potential adopters.
“Everything from the enclosures to minimizing the noise you know it can be very stressful for an animal hearing barking and meowing and all of this chaos when it is echoing off the walls it can be very stressful for them so they have designed facilities so that not only take care of that but the enclosures don’t look like cages,” Kenward said.
The process of making this facility possible is a combined effort.
”This is a public private partnership the city is absolutely involved we will continue to fund animal services because legally we need to do that but the private sector the board of this organization will be running that facility,” said Kenward.
With the adoption center being a non-profit this allows for public donations.
