Montana Street School could serve new purpose
DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -
Montana Street School has been unoccupied since Dothan City Schools’ reconstruction but it could soon serve a new purpose.
The Dothan city commission is considering donating the property to the Dothan Housing Authority.
Exact plans for the building are still in the making but could include using the building for office space and as a community center.
“It’s more than just about a building. It’s about a neighborhood that’s in trouble. We feel like our plan is comprehensive and more than just about buildings. It’s about people and families and as you well know if you visited this neighborhood it’ beyond a tipping point but we can put it back in balance,” says Dothan Housing Authority executive director Samuel Crawford.
The Dothan Housing Authority will present plans in a couple of weeks and the commission will vote and decide on August 18th.
