Geneva City Schools announce new start date; August 24th
DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -
Geneva City Schools will be delaying their start date. Students first day back will be Monday, August 24th and teachers will report back Tuesday, August 11th.
The school system will still be offering traditional and virtual approaches.
At this point 90% of students will be going back to the traditional setting.
Families have until next week to sign up for virtual learning, so the school can have the numbers to prepare.
The change was made to give the school time to go over the tool kit for reopening provided by the state and to full develop online resources.
“That takes time and that takes training and so it was just too tight of a window to try and get that done in 8 days and set up rooms and all of the other things you just have to do. Because lets remember over 90% of our kids are going to come back face to face, I mean were going to have a traditional school,” Ron Snell, Geneva City School superintendent said.
Based on Governor Ivey’s mask mandate, masks will be mandatory for at least the first week of school.
