DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - 2019 is a season that Houston Academy Raider fans would like to forget. HA struggled most of the year finishing the season 1-9.

The Raiders will look to get back on track this season, but will have to rely on youth in order to do so.

Head coach Jamie Riggs has coached numerous teams during his hall of fame career, but says this could be the youngest team he's ever had. Over half of his players are sophomores or younger.

That's a tough draw in order to compete in the Raiders region.

Riggs is expecting some growing pains this year, but isn't going to let that be an excuse on the field.

"We're learning those things right now and we don't have a lot of older players to teach the younger players and that's a challenge just to teach them the way we want to do things," said Riggs. "Our philosophy on the whole thing hasn't changed. Our goal is to try and get every game to the 4th quarter. If we can get a game to the 4th quarter, we have a chance."

Houston academy opens the 2020 season against Kinston.
