Wiregrass Two-A-Days: Cottonwood Bears
COTTONWOOD, Ala. (WTVY) - The Cottonwood Bears have a new head coach for the 2020 season.
Former Northside Methodist head coach Dustin Harrison takes over the Bears program after John Gilmore left for an assistant coaching at Smiths Station.
It's been a rough last few years for the Bears putting together a 16-34 overall record since 2015.
Harrison hopes that he can lead a turnaround to get Cottonwood back to the playoffs, a place the Bears haven't been since 2014. Harrison hopes to accomplish that with a physical defense and a strong rushing attack led by a stout offensive line.
"I anticipate that being the strength," said Harrison. "We're very heavy in our linemen which is usually the opposite problem. Most schools are having a hard time these days finding lineman. We have a lot of linemen. We have a lot of depth there at the line so I feel good about that."
Cottonwood opens the season against New Brockton.
