WICKSBURG, Ala. (WTVY) -The gold and black of Wicksburg gearing up for another high school football season.

The Panthers are coming off a 3-6 season in 2019 but have plans to get back into the playoffs in 2020.

Josh Cox enters year number seven leading the Panthers, and is the only Houston County School head coach returning to the same school in 2020. Cox said his team has shown up this summer and put in the work in the weight room and is wanting to see that success pay off on the field, especially with a number of key players returning.

“We have seven returning starters on offense. We have, I think, six returning starters on defense and most of those guys are in key positions like middle linebacker and defensive end. Positions that really help you in high school football. You keep building and keep working hard and encouraging them and get ready for the season.”

Wicksburg will open the season against Geneva County.
