City of Dothan compares pay rates to other cities
DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - The City of Dothan has received a report comparing its pay rates with other area municipalities.
Wednesday the City released a report it had commissioned from Condrey & Associates to conduct a classification and pay study assessing the City’s positions and pay and comparing them to similar markets in the Southeastern United States.
According to the City twenty-one cities were surveyed in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia.
The study looked at 51 positions like police, fire, planner, accountant, environmental services worker, maintenance construction worker, equipment operator, lineman 1st class, IT Specialist, etc. The salary data from these 51 positions were then developed into pay ranges groupings.
The city says the last comprehensive classification and pay study was performed in 2003.
With these pay ranges and classifications the city is hoping to make sure Dothan pay rates stay current with other area cities. The City also says having this info they can establish higher pay rates and recruit the best employees, for police officers, firefighters and other public safety positions.
The recommended plan will be on the August 4, 2020 City Commission Agenda for their consideration as well as the August 10, 2020 Personnel Board Agenda.
Employees who are currently in position classifications that are below the new minimum salary range will receive an adjustment up to the new minimum salary of the new range.
If approved, City employees will see increases in their September 4, 2020 paychecks.
