4WARN: Tropical Update
DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - It is almost two months into hurricane season, and we continue to monitor things in the tropics. Our focus stays on tropical depression nine as it makes its way closer to the Caribbean.
This is the latest forecast track from the National Hurricane Center. It is getting closer to becoming a tropical storm. It will encounter some factors that will be make it slightly difficult to strengthen, such as land influences, and some dry air.
The depression is continuing to travel NW at 25 mph and possibly could reach the southern coastline of Florida by the end of the week as a tropical storm. This will bring excessive rainfall and possibly tropical storm force winds to the Bahamas and Florida coastlines. More updates will follow, but if this track continues to be forecasted the Wiregrass should not see impacts.
The tropics are continuing to stay active. Several disturbances in Africa are lining up to be pushed off into the Atlantic. This is our next area to keep an eye on. Another broad area of thunderstorms that could possibly gain some momentum and strength as it travels over the Atlantic. Still far away but also worth watching since ocean waters continue to warm up.
Stay updated with the 4WARN Weather Team for all the latest tropical updates.
