DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - The road to the high school football season began on Monday as teams across the state were able to begin fall camp.

The Ashford Yellow Jackets began bright and early, eager to take the field.

Robin Tyra enters his first season as head coach at Ashford after six successful seasons at Abbeville.

After a less than stellar 2-8 season last year, Tyra is preaching to his team to leave last season in the past.

“The successes are the small things right now as we put in the offense and we put in the defense,” said Tyra. “Getting those guys to come in and change the mindset. We’re going to move from that 2-8. Get that past behind us. I told them to grab a steering wheel and look up in the mirror. You see your past back there, now turn your mirror away so you don’t look back there.”

Ashford opens the 2020 season against Tyra’s former team, Abbeville.
