DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - City and community leaders are working together to make parts of Dothan more family-friendly. On Tuesday, dozens came to the Dothan Civic Center for an inaugural meeting.

Its all part of the “Love Your Neighborhood” Cleanup Program of “Love Dothan.” The meeting gave residents a chance to learn more about cleanup plans and to find ways they can help out.

Volunteers and city workers will soon be repairing sidewalks, street signs, and curbs. There will also be yard cleanup and building maintenance.

The Baptist Bottom neighborhood has been chosen as the first site for the beautification project.

Leaders say the goal is to create family friendly communities and inspire residents to love their own neighborhoods. The program is also designed to help leave neighborhoods in a place that residents can sustain them going forward.

“I think it will do a lot to spruce up the neighborhood. We hope its’ infectious and other neighborhoods, whether the city goes in themselves, they’ll get together and have their own cleanups in their own neighborhoods,” Assistant City Manager Randy Morris said.

The work is set to begin in August. Organizers are currently identifying other neighborhoods that need improvements.
