DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - The Alabama statewide mask mandate is in full effect, but not everyone has access to a mask. Love in Action International Ministries provides hot meals and services for those in need, but with the mask mandate they are providing something else too.

“It’s important for us all to stay safe of course, but also our friends don’t have the means to go out to stores and purchase masks themselves and so we wanted to provide masks for them to help them out because it’s a state order now too as well, and we don’t want them getting in trouble or anything either and so we asked the community to help us to provide masks for our homeless friends,” said president and pastor Ken Tuck.

This ministry is spreading love and taking action by donating masks to those in need among the community to keep them safe and healthy from COVID-19.

“Its an opportunity to help those in need, there’s a lot of people as we all know is hurting because of the pandemic and we already had a lot of people hurting before the pandemic,” Tuck said. “This has just multiplied that.”

The ministry has received a few hundred masks so far and delivered roughly 60 masks on Wednesday, July 16. But, they need more to complete the two week outreach. Both cloth and disposable masks are accepted.

“The community coming in to give masks and stuff is awesome,” said volunteer Harold Haymon. “They keep coming in and giving donations every day. That’s what we thrive on, that’s what we need.”

To donate you can drop masks off during Love in Action International Ministries office hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The ministry is open the first three Saturdays of each month and located at 279 W. Main St., Dothan.

“When there is a need people have such a compassion in their hearts for those who are in need and if you make the need known people really respond,” Tuck said. “That’s what I always tell people. We live in the greatest community in the world.”
