Election Day: WTVY Team Tuberville
DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - Tommy Tuberville is favored to win the republican nomination for U-S senate. The former auburn football coach will be in Montgomery tonight for what he believes will be a victory party. Polls certainly suggest that will happen as just a few months ago it appeared Sessions would win this race.
Tuberville then gained enough momentum to finish neck and neck with Sessions in the March primary. Though coronavirus delayed the runoff for three and a half months, Tuberville kept that momentum going.
Perhaps helping him most, an endorsement from President Trump. Bad blood between Trump and Sessions well documented. The winner of this race will face democratic U-S senator Doug Jones in November.
Certainly the republican nominee will be favored in that race but jones has about nine million dollars on hand to fight with. If Sessions loses it will almost surely mark the end of his public service career. One that includes Alabama and U-S attorney general and a 20 year career in the U-S senate.
